Secure in the Promise of Sustainability

What makes a "great" hotel is more than just a plush bed, fine food, and impressive service. Great hotels are inspired by their surroundings, and know just how to use their surroundings to comfort guests and inspire them. Great hotels also know how to use sustainability as a point of departure from the ordinary -- as a driving force for innovative service delivery.
While many hotel executives debate the fiscal merits of sustainable initiatives, such as towel cards and how they might impact the guest experience, at Montage Hotels and Resorts we see sustainability as an integral part of the Montage Culture - as a guiding principle for doing the right thing - for the land, our guests, our associates and our owners. In fact, sustainability as a principle has been folded into our mission statement - "We will create exceptional and sustainable developments with a true sense and spirit of place in locations our guests desire."
We believe that sustainability and luxury are not only compatible; they're complementary. Sustainability aligns perfectly with our brand ethos, providing long-term value while enabling us to maximize the luxury guest experience in an eco-responsible way. We incorporate these core principles - sustainability and luxury - into our approach to doing business at each of our destinations Montage Laguna Beach, Montage Beverly Hills and Montage Deer Valley.
Our guests are sensitive to their social and environmental responsibilities and active, but they come to Montage to relax and recharge. Our first priority is to meet these needs, so we take the onus of environmental responsibility off their shoulders and place it squarely on our own, while refusing to compromise on guest comfort or the quality of our service.
How do we bring this mission to life? We focus on a multifaceted, holistic approach, one that involves associates at all levels of the organization, touches every job function and guest touchpoint, and reflects an abiding commitment to sustainable design and practices, activities, operational processes and purchasing decisions.
In the case of new buildings, sustainability begins with design and construction, and Montage Beverly Hills earned Gold Level Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for new construction, becoming the first ultra-luxury hotel in Southern California to receive this recognition. The hotel has several design features of interest, including energy-saving elevators, efficient in-room electronic technology (lighting, temperature and media controls) that ensure guest comfort and convenience, and the creation of a 28,500 square foot public garden.
